As I haven’t gone through the process (I have a Moto Droid and a G1) I can’t answer that question at the moment. However I will say that whenever rooting / modding a device it is usually a good idea to wipe during the process; it usually leads to a cleaner transition between mods. If you have some indispensable data on your phone, I’d recommend using Titanium Backup or some appropriate program to backup your device before proceeding with this process. If you decide to go through with rooting anyway, let us know. I’m sure our readers would like to know how the process went for you!

Thanks for your feedback. In response, I have two comments:

In its final form this app will support much more than just application launching. In addition, some people would prefer just drawing an gesure to launch their apps than searching through the launcher list
A future version of this application will include a widget that resides on the home page where you can draw the gesture directly on the homescreen

As a quick side note: It would be ideal if you could draw gestures from anywhere during the phone's operation, but to do that I would have to have access to a large portion of input on the phone. This is something that Google isn't going to open up easily in its API; it poses security issues.
