Lets Play: First annual Android Gaming Challenge Announced

Love gaming on your Android device? Well boy is there a contest for you! Recently droidgamers.com has announced their first annual Adroid Gaming Challenge (AGC). First prize takes a sweet package, including an Android device of their choosing.

Here are the terms (from DroidGamers.com):

For 5 days we will collect scores of all the people who have entered into the tournament. You will have 5 days to get the highest score you can.
After the 5 days the Top 40 players will be put into a ladder and from there it is elimination time.
Every day after the ladder is made, players will have 24hrs to beat each other (whomever you are paired against at the time). The winner will move on to the next round. This will continue until we have a final champion.
Each round will be a new game so as to avoid people mastering any specific game and keep the playing field even. Games will be across multiple genres so one day it could be a puzzle game, the next it could be an action/shooter game and so on
Tournament starts approx 10am PST July 30, 2010
To enter the tournament, just be here when we announce the starting game, we will announce the highest Top 40 scores and the usernames that they belong to. Those people will move into the ladder. Also please post here your username that you will be using and make sure you use your correct email address when posting your comment with your username.
First 5 days are qualifiers for all entries
Ladder begins after 5 days of qualifiers, Top 40 players will be placed into the ladder
Each Ladder round will last 24hrs starting at 10am PST and ending 10am PST the following day. We may introduce breaks to let people rest. Each round of the ladder will be a different game.
The last player standing will be the winner of the Grand Prize package which will include a free new Android phone and listed as Best Android Gamer of AGC #1
Top 5 players will also win prizes
No cheating
Droidgamers.com will update scores via their Twitter account as well as post the Ladder results for everyone to see

For now the contest is limited to US particpants only. However DroidGamers promises an international version of the contest immediately afterwards. This contest is a great opportunity to see some of the top games on the Android platform, so even if you don’t plan on participating, be sure to follow along!

Android apps getting recognition through Android Network Awards

If you tuned into AndroidGuys latest podcast, you have heard of the Android Network Awards. Essentially it is the coming together of all of your favorite Android sites in an effort to bring attention to all the great apps that help make Android the awesome platform it is.

This will be for more than just bragging rights. If you’re new to Android, this would be the best way to find out what you should be downloading. Who better to listen to than your peers?

This is how it will work: We’ll help assemble the lists of the top apps in their respective categories and then turn around and give it off to you guys.

We’re breaking Android down into around 25 categories with 5-7 apps in each. Once we have those apps compiled, we hand it of to you! You’re all judges.

The ANA team is working very hard right now with the behind-the-scenes stuff as we finalize the categories and the apps but we can’t wait to hear what everyone has to say about it! Look for voting to open up shortly. Ideally, the goal is to announce the first winners in early August to coincide with the myTouch 3G launch!

So who is the team so far? Well, it’s all the Android sites you’ve come to know and love over the last year or so!

Further Details of Android Developers Contest II are Released

If you’re a serious Android Developer (or if you like to make pretend), you’ve probably been furiously hitting the refresh button on the Android Developers Contest (ADCII) page lately. Well mash f5 no more my friends; the cat is out of the bag and developer engines are revving nationwide. From the Android Developers Blog, details on the contest came out yesterday. Here’s what you need to know:

This contest is for new Android apps. Apps already released have already gotten feedback from the market.
Round 1 will narrow applications down to 20 per category. Considering there are 10 categories, that means 200 applications.
Android users will vote on the top applications in the second round. Their vote will count for 40% of the final tally in this round. Google judges will form the other 60% of the vote.
Judges are looking for:
1. [25%] Originality of Concept
2. [25%] Effective Use of the Android Platform
3. [25%] Polish and Appeal
4. [25%] Indispensability
Your application are due by August 31st

Win $MONEY$ in Android Home Screen Contest: Update

A new contest is being brought your way by Android and Me that could earn you money! That’s right, Anrdoid and Me is hosting a contest that is paying out 15 $25 gift cards to Amazon.com for simply submitting your home screen and having it chosen as a winner. 5 winners will be chosen each week for 3 weeks and one of them could be you!

Some of you may ask how to get a screenshot of your home screen. If you have root access you simply can use the app Screenshot, otherwise you’ll need to install the Android SDK and capture screens that way.

Rules

A screenshot must be taken in AIRPLANE MODE with your icons in the NOTIFICATION BAR (this can be done by holding the “off” button)
A second screenshot this time including the date and time must be taken (the two screenshots with the requirements are in place to reduce cheating)
Post the screenshot anywhere, just make sure to provide a link to it on Android and Me‘s page which can be found here: Show Me Your Android Home Screen
Along with posting your link, post a short description of your theme, apps and widget you have installed

As of right now this contest is only for citizens of USA, UK and Canada. Android and Me hopes to have future contest open to more people very soon.
