Android opens your phone up to a world of possibilities with its app and open nature. Sometimes this wealth of information becomes overwhelming, and we need a way to organize it all. Folder Organizer is an application aimed at helping an android user keep all of his applications, contacts, and shortcuts organized.
This app evolved out of the previous app Apps Organizer. Now users can not only organize their apps into groups, but just about everything on your android phone can be placed in its proper place.
Opening the app reveals 5 handy tabs. The first tab, Labels, allows you to see all the labels present on your phone. Clicking on a label expands the list, revealing what’s within that label. For starters you will see the labels
- Applications
- Bookmarks
- Contacts
- Android
- Games
- Internet
- Last Used Bookmarks
- Main Menu
- Most Contacted
- Multimedia
- Notification
- Oteher Apps
- Starred Apps
- Tools
This list is already populated with applications and entries from your phone. If you add any custom labels, they will appear on this list as well and here is where you would go to edit them / change their icon. The second tab is for your applications. Here you can see all the applications on your phone. By selecting a given app, you can
- Choose the labels it will display under
- Launch the app
- Uninstall the app
- Rename the App
- Change the icon of the application
On the third tab, Bookmarks, you can organize and edit your Internet Bookmarks and do some of the same things that you could do on the apps tab (launch / edit / change labels). The contacts app lets you manage contacts, and finally the shortcuts tab lets you create and manage custom shortcuts on your phone. The shortcuts, after creation can be placed on the home screen, and otherwise used to improve workflow on your phone.
For a video walkthrough of the application see below:

Pros
- Great for getting organized
- Place icons on home screen
- Dynamically created labels. To test this out I created a custom label of my most used contacts consisting of the most used and more recently used contacts in my address book.
Cons
- UI: The UI feels fragmented and is confusing at times. It definitely needs some polish before I would call this a final application.
- Because of the UI, a lot of the features feel orphaned, making the app feel bloated at times.
- I’ve heard of some issues with response times for Nexus One users
